Baking Cookies with Grandma

by Brittany Fox Leave a Comment

  • Facebook

Here’s a poem that I created with my mom in mind. She is great at making the holidays special. When I was young for Valentine’s Day she would often make heart shaped sugar cookies. Now that’s she’s a grandma, with grandkids spread here and there, her and grandpa send their love in cards and stickers. While she may not make cookies with her grandkids for Valentine’s Day, she certainly has done a lot of baking and cookie decorating with her beloved grandchildren. And I think they would do just about anything for her. I hope you enjoy this Valentine’s Day poem honoring a grandma’s love.

”Baking Cookies with Grandma”

By Brittany J. Fox

Gather up each and every grandkid,

hold the cookie jar and take off the lid.

Who wants to help me bake?

                                                         I do!

Great! We have lots of cookies to make!

We need some eggs and butter, too.

Grab vanilla, sugar, to name a few.

Who wants to get the rolling pin?

                                                        I do!

Now, we’re almost ready to begin!

Go get the flour and the salt

and the recipe from the vault.

Who wants to get that measuring cup?

                                                        I do!

Set all items to the side and line them up.

Into the bowl each ingredient goes

perfectly measured, and it shows.

Who wants to roll out the dough?

                                                       I do!

Nice and easy, there you go!

Cookie cutters shaped like a heart

make this baking session a work of art!

Who wants to cut a cookie out?

                                                       I do!

We’ll take turns, no need to pout.

It’s time to place them in the oven

and while they bake, give me some loven’!

Who wants to get a hug and a kiss?

                                                      I do!

We were blessed to have a love like this!

The timer singing “dough is done”!

Cheering comes from each loved one.

Who wants to smell the cookies as they cool?

                                                       I do!

Wow! They look good! Try not to drool.

As they cool on the rack

we’ll get the powdered sugar sack.

Who wants to mix up the frosting?

                                                        I do!

This is so fun and so exhausting!

Now we’re ready to ice and decorate.

We can’t hardly wait to eat them and celebrate!

Who wants to show me their cookie design?

                                                             I do!

All the red and pink and sprinkles, simply divine!

Let’s wish each other a Happy Valentine’s Day

and eat your favorite cookie in your own way.

Who wants to sit with grandma and have a bite?

                                                                   I do!

This batch of grandkids really turned out alright!
