Every spring the pear tree is the first to blossom in our little orchard of apples, peaches, pears and persimmons. It’s a wonderful heralding of the new season here in northern Indiana. Our property holds two houses separated by this little orchard. You better believe the “narrow cattle path” between the two houses is alive and well. That soft groove of love holds fast as my family and I walk from what used to be grandma’s house to ours. I think this poem evokes love, just like springtime does. I hope you enjoy! Allons-y!

Orchard Path
By Brittany J. Fox
There’s a quaint, green little line
that makes a narrow cattle path
between your house and mine.
Where the grass is beaten down,
little white petals float
from the pear tree to the ground.
I turn my gaze upward and I can spy
the first blooms of the orchard,
white clusters on branches high.
Faint, the pale moon, a nice surprize
sits patiently on crooked branches
to watch the sunset with its lunar eyes.
I enjoy the walk from your house to mine
and relish all the treasures I can find
on the orchard path, our lovely little line.
Here’s the clipping from the magazine “Mary Jane’s Farm”.

Brittany, loved the poem Especially like the wording, “lunar eyes”.
So glad you enjoyed the poem. 😊 I especially like that wording as well. It conjures up several ideas for me and I would love to see a painting of an interpretation of it sometime.
We love this poem! Your grandpa Sheets would be really excited to see it in print. What a great illustration the magazine chose to accompany your poem ( even looks like you)!
Congratulations! Keep up the great work!!💕
I’m over the moon, pun intended, with how it all turned out. It’s such a wonderful compliment to hear how much you and dad like the poem and to think of how Grandpa Sheets would have enjoyed seeing it in print. Much love! ❤️
